6 Mearns St, Greenock, Glasgow, Scotland

Mearns St

Mearns St

We left Inverness early, straight after a Scottish Breakfast with black pudding. We traveled down the north side of Loch Ness, through Glen Coe and past Loch Lomond then into Glasgow.

What a glorious drive it was too. Unbelievable views on left and right of the very narrow road. Deep lochs on one side, high mountains on the other and when you get to Glen Coe you cannot help but stop and take in the breath taking views.

When we reached the outskirts of Glasgow typed grandma Stewart’s birth address into our GPS and drove over the Erskine bridge to Greenock and slowly motored through Port Glasgow.

We came to Mearns St but there was no number 6 any more but we were able to see where it used to be. Mearns St used to be tenements but they are now upgraded tenements with a view of the Clyde.

The area is full of these types of houses and office buildings, with a generous smattering of 300 year old churches as well. The tenements rise up the hills overlooking the port and there are some quite posh parts of the the town, but these are the exception.

We went down the the river and threw in some flowers for grandma and granddad.

We left with a nice feeling of completion of the Scottish part of our trip. This is a nice country full of history and everywhere you turn the Stewart name crops up. It’s a good feeling.

6 Mearns St would have been on the left in this photo, looking our over the river.

How cool to have driven down the street that she was born on. Imagine if the house had actually still been there, wow that would have been amazing. Sounds like your having a ball. See you soon.
